The Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways has released its 2021 Spring Tender schedule as it prepares to award an estimated $85.4 million in highway work this spring.
Passing lane projects are the highlight this season, the ministry said, while work to twin Highway 3 west of Prince Albert and replace dozens of culverts are also on the docket.
“Through stimulus spending and early tendering of capital projects like these, we are wisely investing as part of our pandemic recovery while also ensuring good jobs in the construction industry that help grow our economy,” Fred Bradshaw, the province’s minister of Highways, said in a release.
Saskatchewan plans to improve more than 1,350 kilometres of highway this year, and its tender schedule aims to give the industry time to plan out their bids.
“The continuation of spending is something that is going to keep our economy growing,” said Shantel Lipp, president of the Saskatchewan Heavy Construction Association, in a release. “We’re thankful to this government for the continued investment and for recognizing that our industry is essential to keeping our economy strong.”
